These computer speakers are not worth $85! The “subwoofer” cannot reach low frequencies and is weak. There is no mid-range. And the high end is weak as well. If you’re looking for audio quality this will not give it to you. If you just want to hear the words and beat to a song, then buy this. But, if you would like to hear anything else do not buy it! If you want decent computer speakers, buy the Bose Companion 3 Series II speakers. They sound way better for computer speakers. Having said that, even the Bose system has its flaws. It has a decent high end and a decent low end. The mid-range, however, is okay. The thing you should remember about Bose is that the average consumer believes that Bose is top of the line for audio equipment. Not true. Do your research and shop around. I ended up putting a lot more money into my audio equipment than most people are willing to spend. But, I listen to a lot of music and really appreciate decent audio reproduction. In other words, I appreciate when my music sounds like the producers, audio engineers, and artists intended for it to sound.
Now, this is what I bought: the Denon DHT-590BA. It is a full 5.1 surround sound system. The receiver is made by Denon and the speakers are made by Boston Acoustics. Both are reputable manufacturers of fine audio equipment; truly, top of the line. Now, this system retails at $599.99. That’s more than most people are willing to pay for speakers hooked up to their computer (and yes, you can hook your computer up to this system via audio cables into the back of the receiver). But, I guarantee if you really really like to listen to music, you won’t be disappointed. It is exceptional across all frequencies: the low end, mid-range, and high end.
Bottom line: whatever you do, don’t buy the Logitech Z523. It is not worth even $85.

Logitech: a name synonymous with gear in the computer age. But in 2010 I suppose even smart designers are pressed to come out with new products in certain price ranges and then pressed to extract every single penny of cost possible. (skip the subwoofer grill, XioXing!)
This is, unfortunately, what Logitech did by discontinuing the best speaker in this price range and market: the Z-230, and replacing it with a stream of crap that in no way compares in sound or quality.
I purchased three pairs of Z-230′s and use them on my computer, my home theater (no, I don’t think I need five speakers or a bunch of little pornaments surrounding me for great sound), and attached to a downstairs ROKU, streaming from my music library. They all sound great and even elicit compliments from friends and family for their great sound.
Logitech no longer makes a speaker set as good as the Z-230, and it is a testament to bad design, cost constraints and an irrational need to come out with dozens of junk products to feed an imaginary market. Just look for reviews, ANYWHERE, of Z-230′s and you will find evidence that they were the best set Logitech has produced. They are idiots for discontinuing them.

I WAS EXPECTING A LITTLE MORE SOUND FROM THIS PRODUCT. IT SOUNDS OK BUT WITH A POWERED SUB-WOOFER OF THIS SIZE I EXPECTED A LITTLE BIT MORE VOLUME.
